Psychological & Educational Assessment Services Assessment of Cognitive Processing Abilities
The domains that may be tested include: sensory-motor
functions; attention and executive functioning, language development and
language processing abilities (e.g., phonological processing);
visual perceptual abilities; cognitive efficiency and processing speed;
memory and learning processes; and intellectual abilities, including verbal
and nonverbal reasoning abilities. These tests can be used to help diagnose developmental
disabilities such as learning disabilities, ADHD, intellectual deficits or
intellectual giftedness. I do all my own testing and teaching. Assessment of Educational Achievement
Academic testing can be carried out without having to do
a complete diagnostic battery of tests.
For example, I can measure reading development using a variety of
measures. I can also test young
children, age 4 to 6 for reading readiness abilities. Attention Difficulties and Hyperactivity / Executive

Dr. Pat's Reading Clinic
I teach the Phonological Awareness Training for
Reading program written by Torgesen and Bryant for young children to
prepare for successful reading. I use
the Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing Program for Reading, Spelling and Speech for
beginning readers or readers with severe reading disabilities. This program teaches children to sound out
and spell words. I use the Lindamood Seeing
Stars program, which is used to teach children how to use symbol imagery,
the ability to see the visual form of the word in their imagination. This program helps children to develop a
sight word vocabulary and the ability to spell. I use the Lindamood Talkies and the Visualizing and
Verbalizing programs to teach language and reading comprehension. These programs are very good for teaching
language comprehension to children with reading disabilities, language
disabilities and children in the autism spectrum. I use the reading program called SMILE for teaching
children with autism or other children with severe communication disorders
(Structured Methods in Language Education by Enid Wolf-Schien). I use a great variety of books, both fiction and
non-fiction, and reading games that children enjoy. I also use the computer
to provide motivation. Most children
that I teach begin to love reading once they achieve success. I also teach printing and cursive writing
if needed. I teach the ability to
write compositions such as stories and essays. Parents are invited to stay for the lessons so that they can continue to teach their child at home.
